Tortorella<\/strong> is one of the highest and most isolated villages in the \u201centire Cammino di San Nilo. Situated at 582 meters of\u201d altitude, it discreetly yet powerfully dominates the landscape of lower Cilento. The village is nestled among woods, canyons, and valleys that harbor a rare biodiversity: here, nature and history go hand in hand<\/strong>, without ever overshadowing each other. <\/p>

It is reached after a short but intense stage, along the Bussentino river, passing through waterfalls, abandoned mills, and almost primordial landscapes. An Ancient and Discreet Village<\/h4>

The name “Tortorella” might derive from the presence of turtledoves or from the ancient name of the Torto stream. Its origins are medieval, but the first documented traces date back to the 10th century.
Over time, the village has assumed a strategic role, both for the defense of the territory and for its position on the paths connecting coastal Cilento to the Lucanian hinterland.<\/p>

The historic center preserves its \u201coriginal layout, with paved alleys, stone houses, arches, carved portals<\/strong>, views that open onto the valley. It’s a place where the past hasn’t been tamed: you can sense it in the arrangement of the houses, in the\u201d absence of noise, in the slow pace of those who inhabit it. <\/p>

Tortorella is also one of the main centers of the protected area WWF Oasis Grotte del Bussento<\/strong>. Its municipal territory is largely included in the Special Conservation Zone “Mountains of Casaletto Spartano and Tortorella”, one of the richest from a naturalistic point of view. An ecosystem where beeches, hornbeams, holm oaks, and animals such as wolves, otters, and roe deer coexist. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
