“The Holy Cells”

Description

The design symbolically alludes to the particular monastic settlement, with a rhythm between cenobitic and eremitic, which must have been located in the area of Sante Caselle (Sandu Casèddi in the local dialect), evidently a laura, consisting of a central place of worship around which the cells (caselle, kalýve in Byzantine Greek) of the monks were scattered, gathering only for Eucharistic celebrations and, for the main solemnities, in communal meals.
