The San Nilo Way is increasingly becoming part of the community. A tangible sign is the initiative of the town of Sapri to create and install the first milestone of the way on the beautiful seafront.
The milestone is an inscribed stone, placed on the roadside, used to mark distances along Roman public roads. It’s a type of signage that spread along the Camino de Santiago and was then adopted by other Italian pilgrimage routes. The Cilento version was made with stone from Torre Orsaia by artist Emanuele Lione, thanks to the commitment of the Sapri stage committee, which collected contributions from businesses and citizens sensitive to the initiative. At the ‘unveiling’ ceremony of the milestone, many people participated, particularly the Mayor of Sapri, Antonio Gentile, the Deputy Mayor of Morigerati, Cono D’Elia, the Pro Loco Associations of Sapri and Palinuro, and the press, always attentive to our slow mobility project.
