Stage 03

From Casaletto Spartano to Morigerati

Where the river disappears,
a journey through nature and silence

Stage 3 of Cammino di San Nilo is a “deep immersion into the heart of Cilento National Park’s nature, connecting Casaletto Spartano to Morigerati in a 9.6 km journey. Although short, this section offers intense emotions thanks to the presence of the Bussento River, which guides the path with its streams and crystal-clear waters. Here, vegetation takes center stage: holm oaks, oak trees, and Mediterranean scrub create an evocative and relaxing environment, where silence is interrupted only by the sound of” water and birdsong. Each step is an invitation to slow down, breathe deeply, and let yourself be lulled by the peace that this unspoiled territory offers. The well-marked trail winds through a wild yet welcoming environment, perfect for those seeking direct contact with nature and wishing to escape from daily hustle and bustle.

The village of Morigerati, a small gem nestled among the hills, represents the highlight of this stage. Arriving here is a special moment, where nature and man seem to live in perfect harmony. Morigerati is famous for hosting one of the most spectacular protected areas in Cilento: the WWF Oasis of the Bussento Caves. This enchanting place tells a millennial story, where the Bussento River disappears underground to re-emerge in a deep gorge, creating a unique landscape. The Oasis offers hikers a fascinating route, among wooden bridges, paths that venture into the woods, and natural caves carved by water over the centuries. Every corner of this place seems to have come out of a painting, with plays of light and shadow that enhance the colors of the surrounding nature. Visiting it is an unforgettable experience, combining discovery, wonder, and respect for a fragile and precious ecosystem.

Stage 3 is much more than a physical journey: it’s a voyage into the “soul of Cilento and into one’s own inner self. Crossing these silent landscapes immersed in nature, it’s impossible not to indulge in moments of reflection. The sound of flowing” water, the wind caressing the tree branches, and the scents of the earth create a “unique atmosphere, capable of bringing those who walk in tune with the world around them. But this stage is also a cultural journey: the villages of Casaletto Spartano and Morigerati, with their still-living traditions, tell stories of authentic rural life, made of genuine flavors, hospitality, and deep connections with the land. Every encounter along the way becomes an opportunity for discovery, whether it’s an elderly local ready to tell stories of the past or a typical dish to be savored in company. Stage 3: Casaletto Spartano → Morigerati is an” experience to be lived with an open heart, letting oneself be inspired by a landscape that regenerates body and spirit with every step.
