Morigerati
A village that preserves water, silence, and depth
Morigerati is much more than a stop on the Cammino di San Nilo: it is a symbolic destination, a place that combines nature and spirituality in a concrete and living form. The village is located at an altitude of 340 meters, overlooking the course of the Bussento, the river that has shaped the physical and inner geography of the territory over the centuries.
One reaches it by crossing the tiny village of Tortorella and the suggestive valley of the Bussentino river, walking through woods, clearings, and running waters. The access to the village is preceded by one of the most exciting stretches of the path: the Farneto forest and the ancient stone medieval bridge, still perfectly preserved, which announces the entrance to a territory that has managed to preserve its roots.
An Oasis of Biodiversity and Memory
Morigerati is famous throughout Italy for hosting the WWF Oasis Grotte del Bussento, one of the most important naturalistic areas in the south. Here, the river disappears underground and then resurfaces inside a canyon, among waterfalls, caves, and passages carved into the rock. The Oasis is a place of wonder and study, but also of silence and immersion, perfectly in tune with the rhythm of the path.
The biodiversity of the territory is exceptional: oaks, holm oaks, ferns, and a fauna that includes otters, roe deer, raptors, and amphibians. The path that crosses the oasis is well marked and also allows for short meditative stops along the river.
Between Culture and Widespread Spirituality
The historic center of Morigerati is compact and well-maintained, with paved streets, stone arches, and houses built according to the Cilento tradition. The village has maintained an authentic connection with its origins over time: peasant culture, bread making, the bond with water and the sacred.
The stage ends in the main square of the village, the heart of community life and symbolic arrival point for those who have crossed the valley. Despite the simplicity of the place, here one feels a “subtle energy: an active tranquility, made of attention and care.”
